In the spring of 2011 the gym at the Medley Spa & Wellness center in Linköping, Sweden was renovated, which also included the much worn wooden floor. One of HTC’s certified contractors got the contract to grind the floor and we decided to pay a visit during the grinding process.
The Medley enterprise consists of 30 Spa & Wellness centers throughout Sweden. Their business concept is to offer an inviting atmosphere and a variety of activities, which will turn the facilities into major venues and thereby promote public health in the municipalities where they operate.
As for diversity, that’s exactly what Medley in Linköping can offer their customers. The facility includes two 25-meter indoors swimming pools, a large water park, a 50-meters outdoor swimming pool, one of Scandinavia’s largest artificial lakes for water activities, two gym, an indoor sports arena which is also Linköping’s main arena for indoor sports and much more.
What now was to be renovated was the wooden floor in one of the facilities two gym. When we visited Medley in Linköping, Kjell from the company Stångå Clean AB was halfway through the project. The 300 m2 wooden floor was divided into two rooms and to grind the floor Kjell used the radio controlled floor grinder HTC 950 RX and HTC’s diamond tools for wood grinding.
“Before I started, the floor really looked terrible and it was heavily worn with large, dark spots of spilled sporting drinks among other things,” says Kjell during a break at work. He also tells us that the floor is a beech floor, which is very hard wood and therefore can be difficult to grind, but with the right equipment and knowledge it’s not really a problem. We ask Kjell what he thinks about using HTC’s machinery for wood grinding compared to older, more traditional methods. “An HTC machine is actually easier to use and does the job faster than a drum sander,” says Kjell. “In addition, the floor becomes more leveled.”
Stångå Clean AB has, just like any of HTC’s certified contractor a long experience in floor grinding and a thorough and comprehensive training in HTC’s machinery and flooring concepts. This is a requirement to become an HTC certified contractor.
We left Kjell to come back a week later to look at the finished, and now varnished floor. And exactly as the business concept say it should, the atmosphere at the gym has now become even more inviting thanks to the new, lovely wooden floor.
